what its all about
This piece of work concept deals with the loss of a mother figure and abandonment. It was brought about through a real life bereavement, which resulted in me seeking both a presence and a place of safety. The female human form plays a massive part in my work. The construction of this piece consisted of the act of sewing myself inside a skin like membrane of latex. This act is about trying to regain a maternal space of safety, protection, comfort and with the idea of the chora, which is tied to feminist theories of the bridge between mother and daughter. Latex was chosen because of its resemblance to skin and its connotation of medical procedures of giving birth and just for its aesthetics. To me materials are a language and in this case my body was an important medium and narrative.
This piece is hung in a womb like form and projected onto it is a video piece featuring the performance of sewing myself into the womb-like sculpture and footage taken from my nana’s house. Going to her house has many parallels with the performance as it is a home filled with childhood memories, and it preserves that feeling of a mother’s presence. Everything is ongoing- it doesn’t stop until we do- and this is a theme of my work. Even though death stops a life in one form, a person still continues in other forms, in memories, memorabilia and relics, which is what my project has tried to capture.
The death of the mother figure has left this place empty and different; just as I have shaken off this latex cocoon, leaving it empty; entering and being here inhabiting this space and then having to leave. Projecting my feelings onto something that is an object or a place is the way my idea has materialized in both aspects of this piece. The house itself is full of objects, which are preserved in the memory, and the latex is kept as a reminder of what has taken place and the experience of being in this space. These are the feelings I am left with- emptiness and unease, as I have no place to go.

Rationale
Throughout this process i have found it very hard to get to grips with using the Internet as a form of sketch book having difficulties with getting to other peoples blogs ,and all the settings, and in using it to talk about my work in the right way and had difficulty putting into words what i felt about other exhibitions ,as i am not used to dealing with this as a outlet for my thoughts and not strong on reflecting on what i do.At the end of this module i have only partially come to some understanding of the way i can use this to my advantage and feel it is a useful tool/skill to have gained for the future.I will be proceeding to use this to maybe open a few doors to me in the art world and to let people know what i am doing in my practice .
Fundraising has proved difficult as my idea to hold a band night took effort which did not pay off we had bands lined up to play but could not find a venue that would let us hold it for free and also would have cost for sound technicians to help us to put this event on.I underestimated how difficult it is to put on an event like this and in the future i would give myself more time and do some preliminary fundraising to be able to go through with this event ,i was planning for it to advertise the actual show maybe in the future i will use this idea to fund my own work. The Group as a whole was a challenging task it proved difficult to bring everyone together at the same time to talk about our ideas and in the future i would have made more effort to inform everyone of a set meeting time and a more planned out group tasks to raise money. i feel the fundraising team was a bit dis-jointed but looking back we raised enough money for what we needed-alcohol etc.The other groups worked well but i'm not sure if all the groups gelled sufficiently together and communication may have broken down at some points .On the hole i feel the exhibition has come together very well and has not been over stressful.I have really enjoyed going through this process,it has been a scary roller coaster of up and downs concerning the work i was putting in the show as i was not sure if my idea would work. I feel my concept and work went well with the surroundings and the feel of the show as it concerned found object and feel the hard work i put in payed off and was a strong idea to go with for my first exhibition .I am pleased at the out come.I have learnt a lot in undertaking this task this will help me in the future to hold my own exhibitions and to promote me as an artist and maybe in selling my work or concepts. If i was to go through this exercise again i feel i would get more involved and as i'v said make it so there where more group assignments.I would also visit more exhibitions and try harder to write more about the finner details.i would also have made some promotional material to put alongside my work so the audience could contact me and look at my work on this blog.

Naming day
Inanimate identity...........
this seems an appropriate name as to me it includes the meaning and concept of my work..
inanimate-showing no sign of life also means inorganic or dead
The title is comenting on my loss of identity

my place
i feel been in the window is a bit scary as its the first thing the audience will see but I'm sure its a positive thing as it means its possibly the most noticed.in my space i plan to have plinths as i can not have a shelf as i had planned but this makes 'the hang' a lot easier for me as i just need to think of positioning and lighting
positioning-i plan for the objects to be placed in a symmetrical way-in sizing but not highest in the middle then getting smaller towards edges... but corresponding different sizes on each side ..
lighting-i want lighting pointing in from both sides looking at its surroundings I'm not sure if this is possible but we will see at the time

Jimmie Durham
not sure if i am allowed to put these up..but anyway just wanted to talk bout the video shown at this exhibition i really liked the idea of people bringing him an object and then him smashing it up i feel this relates to my work in some way,it was funny but i could also see a deeper meaning that reached out to me.
